Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 Review: First Impressions of Samsung’s Best Foldable Yet

Introduction

Each year, Samsung releases new flagship devices, but often the updates feel incremental. That changed in 2025.

The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra kicked off the year strong, but the real surprise came with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7. For the first time, Samsung’s foldable isn’t just a niche experiment—it’s an Ultra-level flagship in its own right.

After a few days of testing, here are my first impressions of the Galaxy Z Fold 7, how it compares to the Fold 6, and why it might be the most exciting Samsung phone of the year.

Slimmer, Lighter, and More Durable

The biggest improvement is clear: the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is thinner than ever.

  • Folded, it matches the thickness of the Galaxy S25 Ultra.
  • Unfolded, it’s barely thicker than a USB-C port.

Despite its slim profile, durability hasn’t been sacrificed. The new hinge design is sturdier, rated for over 500,000 folds, which translates into years of daily use. In hand, it feels premium, balanced, and surprisingly robust for such a complex device.

Redesigned Camera System with Ultra-Level Power

Samsung has redesigned the camera housing, with a raised “podium” layout for its triple-camera system. Space is tight in a foldable, but the execution is elegant.

More importantly, the Fold 7 now carries Ultra-level camera hardware:

  • 200MP main sensor
  • 50MP telephoto
  • 12MP ultra-wide
  • LOG video recording support

While the 200MP sensor isn’t identical to the one in the S25 Ultra, it’s still a massive leap forward for the Fold series. For the first time, users don’t need to choose between an Ultra and a Fold—you can effectively get both in one device.

Bigger, More Practical Displays

One of the Fold 6’s weaknesses was its narrow front display. The Fold 7 finally fixes this.

  • The cover display feels usable as a standard smartphone, even for large hands.
  • The inner display benefits too, with a bigger, more immersive screen.

This makes a world of difference for multitasking. During testing, I comfortably ran a PDF on one side and a browser on the other—essentially like having two phones side by side.

Practical uses include:

  • Watching videos hands-free when partially folded
  • Using the phone as its own tripod for content creation
  • Reading eBooks or documents in a more natural, tablet-like format

Productivity Meets Creativity

The seamless transition between phone mode and tablet mode is one of the Fold 7’s biggest strengths. Apps expand instantly when you unfold, making the experience smooth and intuitive.

This opens up creative possibilities too. By unfolding the device, you can use the rear cameras for selfies, unlocking high-quality self-portraits that no slab phone can match.

Add to that One UI 8, which brings new AI features, customization, and multitasking enhancements, and the Fold 7 feels like a true productivity powerhouse.

Colors, Style, and First Impressions

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 is available in Blue, Silver, and Jet Black. My personal favorite is the Blue—it’s bold without being over the top, though Black is a sleek second choice.

What really stands out, however, is how many small surprises the phone offers. Whether it’s the sturdiness of the hinge, the usability of the cover display, or the sheer versatility of the inner screen, the Fold 7 constantly delivers “wow” moments.

Final Thoughts: Is the Galaxy Z Fold 7 Worth It?

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 feels like a milestone for foldables. It’s thinner, more durable, and packed with Ultra-level features—making it Samsung’s best foldable yet.

If you’ve been waiting for the Fold series to truly mature, this is the year.
